Spring Perennial Exchange
By Susan Rowe, Ferndale Beautification Commission
Sat. May 16
Ferndale’s Beautification Commission has been sponsoring the Perennial Exchange for the last seven years. Formerly held at Kulick Center, the event has always been a blast. Rain or shine it is a good time – and advantageous, too.
“Bring a Plant / Take a Plant,” that’s the deal. Last year we upped the ante to include a raffle with prizes and a 50/50 drawing. Art projects of all sorts (handcrafted by locals) and rain barrels are for sale. We offer free gardening books and information. The City graciously donates free mulch, and Dan from DPW has been kind enough to bring his shovel and dig!
“Bring a Plant / Take a Plant” is our mantra. But stay long enough to enjoy the event, and never mind the “bring.” The event can be downright dirty (pun intended)! Seriously, what’s most uplifting is the opportunity for neighbors to share the fruits of their labor.
FBC members voted last Winter in favor of the idea of a Spring Exchange. Spring
brings renewed energy and motivation. Rebirth!
This year we are pleased to announce that we are adding guest speakers to share their expertise. Featured guest/expert will be Jan of “Two Women and a Hoe.” Check out her web site: www.twowomenandahoe.com
The Commission welcomes everyone to come and share this good time (with benefits). Young or old, beginner to veteran, there is always something to be gained. It takes effort and desire to make an urban neighborhood shine. We invite all to share your experience and your bounty. We are a Commission of seven members, and our desire is to be an influencing factor in the blooming and greening of our hometown. Please come May 16, 10:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. to Blumz by JRDesign on East Nine, our gracious host.
Further details of this year’s event will be posted on Ferndale Forum and “Ferndale Beautification” on Facebook
